Stanza 120

120

For several days, the villagers could see
A most unusual curiosity.
Four sites upon the edge of town were cleared,
Foundation, walls, and last the roof appeared.
Each building was connected to the base
By trenches which provided ample space
For water mains to carry the supply
To these new structures. People wonder why
The foreigners had dug a pit downhill
From each new project and commenced to fill
The massive holes with reinforced concrete
To form a hollow box. Then once this feat
Was finished, dirt was liberally spread
To level off the ground above the bed
That housed the tank to hold the septic waste.
Then after every fixture had been placed
Where it belonged to serve the villagers,
The S4 showed the senior officers
Facilities that now were functional
And just as clean as any hospital.
