Stanza 7

Then Musa's father throws the portal wide
To welcome honored visitors inside,
While all the others organize the room
To make the chamber rapidly assume
A daytime aspect. For each resident
Is sure that morning prayer is imminent.
There won't be time to justify more sleep
So everyone is now resolved to keep
His eyelids open and remain awake.
They also, for the ayatollah's sake,
Instinctively consider how to be
As liberal with hospitality
As what their poverty can justify.
So Musa loudly gives a warning cry
To let the women know that they should dress
In modesty as he will shortly bless
Their quarters with the presence of a man.
And so the ladies clothe themselves again
To cover arms from shoulder to the hand
And keep their legs from ever being scanned.
